Signals

Signals can be added to a model railroad for more realistic operation, especially if they are lighted and turn on and off properly to provide the engineer information on whether to proceed through a turnout either to the mainline or the branch. The signals are usually wired to the turnout with a relay switch that turns them on or off depending on which way the turnout is thrown.
