DCC Locomotives

These are locomotives that have DCC decoders installed which allows for individual operation of each locomotive independently of the others. These engines require Digital Command Control (DCC) Stations rather than regular DC (Direct Current) transformers for proper operation.

DCC decoders can be installed in regular DC (also called analog) locomotives by persons who have that expertise. There are multiple videos on YouTube that demonstrate how to do this.

“DCC Ready” locomotives are ones that do not have a decoder, but they already have the wiring and the capability of having a decoder installed just by plugging in a decoder made for this purpose. These allow customers to buy a DCC Ready locomotive at a lower cost that has the option of easily adding a decoder later.

Other DCC accessories can be purchased as well that use decoders to control turnouts and other accessories that can be installed on a DCC layout. They can also be connected to a computer as an interface for using JMRI for control of your layout with your computer.
